Dance North Scotland stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Faced with the continuing genocide in Gaza, today we restate our support for the Palestinian-led call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), and we commit to the Palestinian Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).
PACBI, inspired by the boycott of apartheid South Africa, is not about individuals. It is about refusing to normalise a state built on occupation, apartheid, and systemic violations of human rights.
We commit to:
- Boycotting cultural projects and organisations funded by the Israeli government, its institutions, or embassies.
- Declining cultural collaborations or partnerships with official Israeli bodies.
- Refusing to host, promote, or endorse arts projects that “normalise” oppression or frame oppressor and oppressed as equals.
- Actively supporting and platforming Palestinian artists, organisations, and cultural institutions—without attaching conditions of “coexistence.
This is more than a statement. We are embedding boycott principles into our programming, our purchasing, and our daily activities — large and small.
This decision comes from collective conversations with our staff, Board, and other freelancers, informed by the leadership of others in the arts sector. We thank them for their work and stand with them in saying:
No to apartheid. No to normalisation. Yes to justice and freedom.
